These Peppermint Bark Bars have a crunchy Oreo crust layered with creamy chocolate fudge, topped with rich dark and white chocolate chips and crushed candy canes. It’s the perfect and easiest Christmas dessert.
Peppermint Bark Bars Recipe
Being inspired by Seven Layer Bars, I wanted to put a holiday twist to the recipe, so I decided to turn them into Peppermint Bark Bars. I knew an Oreo crust would be perfect to keep a rich chocolate flavor and it would pair well with the chocolate fudge layer. I used dark chocolate chips to stay true to a good peppermint bark.
I added crushed candy canes after baking the bars, so the peppermint wouldn’t be overpowering. If you like a strong peppermint flavor, feel free to add more crushed candy canes to your bars.
How to Make Peppermint Bark Bars
To make Peppermint Bark Bars, you will start by adding Oreos to a food processor and blend until finely crushed. No need to remove the cream from the cookies. Add the melted butter to the cookie crumbs and mix until combined. In a 9 x 13 inch baking dish lined with foil, add crumbs and press firmly on the bottom prepared pan. Using the back of a flat measuring cup is helpful. Bake at 350 degrees F for 8 minutes and remove from the oven.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt one cup of dark chocolate chips with one 14 ounce can of sweetened condensed milk. Make sure to stir continuously. Once melted, pour over the crust and spread evenly.
Top fudge layer with remaining dark chocolate chips and white chips; press down firmly with your hands. Bake bars for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees F. Remove bars and immediately sprinkle desired amount of crushed candy canes over bars. Let the bars cool.
Once cooled, remove bars from the baking dish by using the foil. Cut into bars and store loosely covered at room temperature.
