What Makes Peanut Butter Bon Bons So Good?

The combination of creamy peanut butter, crunchy Rice Krispie cereal, and the rich layers of semi-sweet chocolate and butterscotch makes these bon bons irresistible.

The crispy rice cereal gives these bon bons the perfect crunch to the smooth peanut butter filling. Each bon bon is dipped in both butterscotch and semi-sweet chocolate, getting the best of both flavors in one treat.

This easy no-bake recipe is a must try this holiday season.

How to Make Peanut Butter Bon Bons

Step 1: Mix the Filling

  1. In a large mixing bowl, sift the powdered sugar, then add the Rice Krispie cereal. Mix until combined.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt butter and peanut butter together until smooth.
  3. Pour the melted mixture over the sugary cereal and mix well. Using gloves, mix thoroughly with your hands.
  4. Roll into 1-inch balls and place them on wax paper. Chill until firm.

Step 2: Dip in Butterscotch

  1. In a microwave safe bowl, melt butterscotch chips for one minute. Stir until smooth. You may have to heat it again, and I recommend doing it in 10 second intervals, stirring between each heating. The butterscotch can also be melted in a small saucepan on the stovetop, but I prefer to melt it in the microwave.
  2. Dip one side of the chilled balls into the melted butterscotch, creating a swirl as you lift them out. Place each bon bon on wax paper with the undipped side down. Chill until set.

Step 3: Dip in Chocolate

  1. In a microwave safe bowl, melt semi-sweet chips for one minute. Stir until smooth. You may have to heat it again, and I recommend doing it in 10 second intervals, stirring between each heating. The semi-sweet chips can also be melted in a small saucepan on the stovetop, but I prefer to melt it in the microwave.
  2. Dip the opposite side of each bon bon in the chocolate, creating a swirl with your wrist. Place each bon bon on wax paper, chocolate side up. Chill again until fully set.

Equipment Needed

  1. Large mixing bowl: I love and use this set.
  2. Rubber spatula
  3. Measuring cups and spoons: I use and love this set
  4. Kitchen scale: This one has great reviews on Amazon. I measure peanut butter using a kitchen scale, so I don’t make a mess with a measuring cup.
  5. Half baking sheet: I love these Nordic Ware baking sheets.
  6. Wax paper
  7. Microwave safe bowls

Pro Tips for Perfect Bon Bons

  • Chill between steps: This helps the butterscotch and chocolate set properly, ensuring a clean finish.
  • Use quality chocolate: High-quality chocolate and butterscotch chips make a noticeable difference in flavor.
  • Create a swirl: Adding a slight wrist twist while lifting the bon bons from the melted coatings gives them a pretty, decorative look.
